Sarah Daoust-Braun has been a Research and Teaching Associate and Ph.D. student in the Media Change & Innovation Division, Department of Communication and Media Research (IKMZ), University of Zurich since October 2023. Before starting her doctorate, she worked for one year as a student research assistant for the Media Change & Innovation Division.

Her research examines internet users’ everyday experiences of and responses to datafication and surveillance in their use of emerging AI technologies and digital media, as well as in digital communication. In particular, she uses qualitative and quantitative methods to investigate chilling effects, beneficial experiences with dataveillance, and individual and collective sense-making around data collection and analysis practices.

Sarah holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism (Université du Québec à Montréal, Canada) and a specialized master’s degree in Internet & Society (University of Zurich). Before pursuing graduate studies, she worked as a journalist for four years in Canada.
