Tanja Rüedy, MA, has been a Research and Teaching Associate in the Media Change & Innovation Division, Department of Communication and Media Research (IKMZ), University of Zurich since February 2019.

Her doctoral thesis focuses on algorithm ethics associated with advertisements. More specifically, her work assesses ethical challenges and opportunities of online content providers (e.g., online magazines, newspapers), which collect user data in order to enable such algorithmic ad allocation. Both the theoretical and empirical parts of her assessment identify ethical values such as transparency, accountability and fairness as core elements of media responsibility. Media responsibility is considered as a strategic communication tool as well as a self-regulatory element.

Tanja Rüedy is an associated member of the Gender Studies doctoral program at the University of Zurich.
Prior to joining the IKMZ she worked for an online marketing start up as account manager.

In February 2023, Tanja Rüedy successfully defended her dissertation entitled 'Algorithmic Selection in Advertising: Exploring Its Impact on Online Publishers and Their Social Responsibility'. After more than four years in our division and having finished her PhD, Tanja will leave our team by end of the month. We share her excitement for her new professional endeavors.
